Condition of the subject matter of the availability, distribution, and prices are very influential on food security in general. Additionally in consumption patterns will staple continues to change. Food commodities such as rice, corn, and soybeans are included in the basic material wherein the Indonesian people against commodity dependence is very high, so it has strategic value both political and economic aspects. In addition to the commodity meat and fish are also included in the basic materials, where the meat is a commodity fulfillment of the protein, while the fish into the category of strategic commodities and indicators SDG's. Not to forget the onion and chili price is quite volatile and affect the inflation numbers are also part of the staple and into a commodity that is not less important.

Therefore, it is necessary to study the needs / consumption of the staple. In 2015, such studies have been done just that the sample is still very limited and they lack of comparative data. Additionally commodity that is the limited scope while other commodities are indicators of SDG's not covered. In 2017 it carried out activities Basic Materials Consumption Survey 2017 which aims to obtain data on the use / consumption of staples such as rice, corn, soybeans, beef / buffalo, and meat ayam.Selain these activities also include other commodities such as eggs / egg duck, fresh cow's milk, fish and aquatic animals, onions and peppers which all commodities include provincial and national levels.

This activity begins with a listing of census block / updating the directory on April 1 to 15, 2017. After the events of this listing then sampled and enumeration on April 1 s.d. May 31, 2017.
