Abstract

In May 2022, Bali Province (Denpasar City and Singaraja City Combined) recorded inflation as high as 0.71 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 109.33 in April 2022 to 110.11 in May 2022. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) in May 2022 was 3.25 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (May 2022 versus May 2021 or YoY) was recorded as high as 4.39 percent.

Inflation occurred due to the increase in the price of public consumption goods/services as indicated by the increase in the CPI in ten expenditure groups, namely: group IV (equipment, equipment, and routine household maintenance) as high as 4.60 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 1.28 percent; group VI (transportation) as high as 0.67 percent; group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as high as 0.64 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.56 percent; group IX (education) as high as 0.38 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.33 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.19 percent; group X (providing food and beverages/restaurants) as high as 0.16 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.14 percent. Another group recorded deflation, namely group VII (information, communication, and financial services) of 0.23 percent.

Of the 90 CPI cities, 87 cities experienced inflation and three cities recorded deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan (Bangka Belitung Islands) as high as 2.24 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Gunungsitoli (North Sumatra) and Tangerang (Banten) as high as 0.05 percent each. The deepest deflation was recorded in Kotamobagu (North Sulawesi) at 0.21 percent, while the shallowest deflation was recorded in Merauke (Papua) at 0.02 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar City ranks 41st and Singaraja City ranks 57th out of 87 cities experiencing inflation.
